Sky Mavis has issued 160k in $AXS as an esports grant for Axie Infinity

Last weekend, Sky Mavis announced an esports grant worth $160k for Axie Infinity. The company will use the funds to plan and run professional tournaments and invitational events.

With this, Method MetaGuild, a joint venture blockchain company, was announced as the first recipient of the grant. The team will now be able to allocate $160,000 to different LAN and online tournament prize pools.

Sky Mavis will spread the rest of the funds between the fourth quarter of 2022 and the second quarter of 2023. These AXS dollars will be distributed as tournament prizes based on the size of the event, as follows.

  1. Major tournaments – $200,001 to $1,000,000 prize pools. These are large tournaments with sizable prize pools, strong online qualifiers, and a significant physical presence with LAN finals.
  2. Smaller tournaments – $50,001 to $200,000 prize pools. These tournaments have smaller prize pools, some online qualifiers, and a smaller physical LAN final.
  3. Online Invitational Tournaments and Leagues – $10,000 to $50,000 prize pools. These tourneys are purely online tournaments with no physical presence and some form of open qualifier.
  4. Local Tournaments – $1,000 to $9,999 in prize money. These can be regional or local amateur tournaments for smaller organizers, scholarships and emerging regions.
