Mythical Games is testing an Ethereum-compatible chain

Mythical Games CEO John Linden says his company is building an EVM-compatible chain in anticipation of the switch from ethereum to proof of stake (PoS). He told CoinDesk that this will depend on whether the merger (Ethereum’s planned software upgrade this month) will go ahead as planned.

Ether will transition to a proof-of-stake (PoS) model after the merger is completed. Thus, ending its long-standing proof-of-work (PoW) consensus mechanism. This will help the network reduce processing time, lower transaction costs, and scale better in the future.

According to Linden, the team has been building an ethereum-compatible chain for the past few years. But given Ether’s “massive gas costs,” it’s unlikely they’ll be able to launch an EVM chain. It’s also difficult to validate “substantial external fees” for users, especially with the $10 video game programs offered in many of the mythical games.

As of now, the company is using its own Mythical Chain, a fork of the EOS.IO blockchain protocol.” We added our own level of EVM compatibility to it. [Then] added the bridge back to Ether,” Linden explained.

Clearly, Mythical Games is interested in working with the EVM chain again after the merger.” Linden said, “As EVM catches up with proof-of-stake, we prefer that technology stack. When asked if the company was moving into ethereum, Linden did not give a definitive answer. Instead, he said the team believes “there would be some efficiency in having a true EVM chain behind the scenes.”

One of the OG blockchain gaming companies in the space, Mythical Games has two notable NFT games in its portfolio. nfl Rivals and Blankos Block Party. it’s unclear if the company will consider running any games on Ether in time. But there are still many Web3 entities, such as OpenSea, LooksRare, Circle and Chainlink, that have indicated support for a PoS version of Ether.
