Movieplex.io and Cinema Libre Studio Launched the First NFT Film on OpenSea

The two companies have already released three NFT films, with more than 100 more to come in the coming weeks.

Cinema Libre teams up with Movieplex to bring NFT films to the masses

Movieplex.io, a leader in blockchain technology for the film industry, has partnered with indie film producer and distributor Cinema Libre Studio to present its first NFT movie on OpenSea.

According to the press release, the Movieplex.io film collection is the first ever feature-length film made available as an NFT. These unique digital collections are hosted on the Polygon blockchain.

At the time of this writing, both companies have already published three NFT films in their collection. First on the list is “Phosfate,” an environmental documentary that follows the story of filmmaker Eric E. Crown, who works with locals to investigate a rising cancer outbreak in Florida.

The second work is the documentary “Guantanamo Diary Revisited” about Mr. Mohamedu Ould Sulahi, who was arrested as a suspect of al-Qaeda after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The last film, From Iceland to Eden, is a feature film about a couple who get into drugs in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland.

“NFTs are the future of watching movies,” said Philippe Diaz, Founder and Chairman of Cinema Libre Studio. “When someone buys a movie on iTunes or Amazon, they only receive a tethered video file. NFTs allow collectors to keep and resell their assets and become part of the community, creating a unique link between the filmmaker and the filmmaker: the purchaser will be able to access subsequent content that is also part of the film’s distribution, including deleted scenes, interviews with actors and directors, and reviews from the festival element can be received.”

NFT movies are still in their early stages compared to movies in the digital arts, games, and music industries. Nevertheless, there is a list of advantages they can bring to independent producers.

Web3‘s decentralized file storage architecture breaks through traditional movie-streaming cost outlays with near-zero centralized bandwidth usage,” said Garry Dolley, founder of Movieplex.io. “This makes the Web3 movie streaming business model much more profitable than traditional streaming platforms.”

In the coming weeks, Austin-based Movieplex will upload over 100 films to OpenSea, making some of them available for avid collectors to own. For those interested, you can check out the full collection here.
