Game development studio Midnight has announced it has raised $7.5 million in a seed round led by Shima Capital.

The funds will be used to launch Web3’s company and platform featuring various blockchain games.

Next to Shima Capital, other participants in this round include Snackclub, Forte, Overwolf, the founders of Illuvium and others.

Midnight CEO Steve Wade said in an interview with GamesBeat that the games they make are player-first, with both free-to-play and premium titles, coupled with a “forging” system that makes them enjoyable rice field. It helps create a healthy economy while bringing interoperability.

“While some are betting that fake ‘ownership’ and the economics associated with it will lure the masses into boring NFT-driven games, we believe that participation and the secondary market are meaningful and that players I firmly believe it needs to be added to the story. Our games are designed to be enjoyed without the NFT layer and are aimed at a wide range of gamers. It doesn’t matter if someone is crypto he is native. They will find something in the middle of the night.”

The company already has three titles in development: Legion, Next Protectors and At Your Service. The first is his 4X MMO, the second is his pixel-art style 2D brawler, and the third is a couch co-op focused game. More details will be revealed in the coming months.
