Life Beyond recently released a blog post outlining its plans for game economics, including tokennomics, and how it plans to bring in players with no blockchain experience, or perhaps no desire.
The Life Beyond economy is based on three principles: gaming activity on sidechains, a custodial wallet for smooth in-game transactions, and a dual currency system.
Like many other Web3 projects these days, Life Beyond is built with the goal of making the game play smoothly and bringing in new players from the Web2 world. Part of the effort includes providing a gaming experience that does not require maintaining a personal wallet or interacting directly with the blockchain. This is achieved by hosting most of the game activity on a sidechain and providing all players with an in-game custody wallet.
Players can participate in Life Beyond without worrying about on-chain tokens or NFTs if desired.
Life Beyond Tokenomics
Life Beyond features a two-token system. These tokens are DOLS and an unnamed token now called FT (Fungible Token). DOLS is an in-game currency only. It can be exchanged for FT in-game, but nothing else exists. Meanwhile, the other token (FT) will be transferable via a bridge between the game’s custody wallet and the traditional wallet on the mainchain.
Most of the basic game functionality is kept on the sidechain and uses DOLS as currency. This includes player progression, infrastructure building, in-game market purchases, and trading goods and services between players.
FT tokens are used for all NFT interactions such as NFT item repair, crafting, minting, decorating, pets, etc. FT Token offers a variety of items on its own marketplace and pays with FT. This may include items such as land parcels, mystery boxes, and other collectibles. FT is also used for staking. Staking FT tokens will increase DOL emissions from land ownership and provide access to exclusive in-game items. And finally, FT will also act as a governance token, allowing players to vote on decisions regarding his Life Beyond future.
The Hub
Alpha playtesting ended a while ago, but Life Beyond has opened ‘The Hub’. Hubs are social spaces for players to interact and showcase their characters, clothing, and equipment. This is the central space of the main game and already contains some features. One is the Founder Terminal. This is a tribute plaque bearing the names of his 500 founders who were the first to join Life Beyond. The hub also includes a terminal with slides and information about flora and fauna. Information that players discovered during their alpha playtests is now available for free viewing!
There are not many clothing options yet. However, Agent Zero players who have her jacket can wear it on Zahab’s avatar. Players can download The Hub here.
What is Life Beyond?
Life Beyond is a free to play and earn third person FPS style MMORPG. In Life Beyond, players are inhabitants of the planet Dross, an otherworldly world around a distant star. During the first alpha, players worked on clearing and defending land for their first settlement. Along the way they encountered various hostile wildlife. Many of them resembled giant alien cockroaches!
The game follows lore, with alpha events and reasons for shutdown being written as part of the storyline. Players take part in solo or group missions to gain experience and rewards. But in doing so, you can also contribute to the larger community’s goals, where you can win new events and prizes.
Players have four classes, each with a different weapon choice. Try it out on solo missions, or sign up for group missions for bigger rewards.
