Its purpose is to recognize artists who find creative ways to connect with fans through virtual experiences. Ariana Grande, BTS, Charli XCX, Justin Bieber and Twenty One Pilots are the other musicians nominated for the award.

In addition, the VMAs saw rap legends Snoop Dogg and Eminem perform alongside their Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFTs. The concert took place at the Otherside metaverse, where hundreds of fans cheered on the duo in a virtual experience they had never seen before. Superstars like Anita, Bad Bunny, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, Jack Harlow, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Panic! at the Disco also made appearances at the big music awards show.

This month, Republic Records, the music company behind Taylor Swift, filed a trademark application for NFT and cryptocurrency covering music NFT releases. Last week, the “Big Three” Warner Music Group unveiled its playable virtual map at the start of the third season of “Sandbox” Alpha.
